Practical Unix Security
The book “Practical Unix Security” can almost be thought of as a piece of history.
- Very good book
- Very old book
- Still relavent ( but doesn’t cover a lot of newer topics )
- Unix: BSD and System V ( ideas often carry over to Linux )
This book is super old. The first edition goes back to 1991. The third edtion was published back in 2003. I don’t see any newer editions but I could be wrong.
This is a terrific book that covers a lot of the fundamental concepts and ideas behind Unix Security. Keep in mind that this book is about actual Unix systems ( BSD and System V ) and not Linux systems. Most of the concepts and even technical details will carry over to Linux systems just fine.
While this book does cover the fundamentals of Unix security it doesn’t cover a lot of the newer topics that are important today. If you want to become a security professional ( or amateur ) you are going to need other sources of information.
