Implementing CIFS

This is one of the most authorative book on CIFS / SMB. This book was written by Christopher Hertel: LinkedIn. He is one of the developers of Samba.

CIFS stands for Common Internet Filesystyem. This is a protocol used for used for filesharing among other things. It is apparently a dialect of a specific version of SMB which is the protocol used by Samba, Windows file sharing, and other technologies. It has a long history going way, way back and continues to be used to this day.

If you want to learn about all of the technical details of CIFS including protocol details and authentication, then this book is an excellent resource.
