Raspberry Pi 4

The Rasbperry Pi 4 is a relatively powerful little device. It could really be used as a desktop replacement depending on the type of work you are doing. It comes in 1, 2, 4, and 8 GB versions. Keep reading for more details and for my unboxing video. You can find it on Amazon HERE.

CanaKit Raspberry Pi 4 Starter Kit

I bought a kit that included mostly everything that I would need and probably a lot of things that I don’t need. I picked a starter kit from CanaKit. At the time the 4 GB model was the best available. Shortly after the 8 GB model was released.

Here is the unboxing video:

The kit from the video is the “CanaKit Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Basic Starter Kit with Fan (4GB RAM)”. You can get it on Amazon HERE.

I thought this was a great kit. I don’t need everything but many of the components are really important. Some are just nice to have while others are things that I need but wouldn’t have thought of until I actually needed them.

The kit includes:

This particular kit did not come with an SD card which was fine. I ordered one on Amazon and will use the installer to try a few different operating systems. I think there was a version that did come with an SD card but it was slightly more expensive so I ordered separately.

Does a Raspberry Pi 4 Need a Heat Sink and Fan

I’ve heard people say different things about this. Some people say that it works fine without a heat sink and others say that you need one. Personally, I would say to just add the heat sink no matter what because it isn’t expensive and will improve your performance. They fan is probably less important but if you have one it make sense to use it.
